IN TRANSIT INFORMATION FOR THE FIRST TIME INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS TO THE USA

Transit

If you are looking for or reserving a ticket to fly to the United States, you should pay close attention to your ticket itinerary if it is not a non-stop direct flight from your nation to the United States. If you want to take a nonstop flight from your home country to the United States, you may skip this part.

The kind of passport you possess determines whether or not you require a visa to traverse the intermediate nation on your way to the United States. Some of the arguments made below should be relevant to many Asian and African pupils.

Though most Middle Eastern countries and many European countries allow airport transit without a visa, this is only possible if you have a single ticket from your country to the US with a single transit to some country in between where airport transit is permitted without a visa for citizens of your country (your nationality). If you need to depart immigration or customs at any airport, be sure your passport qualifies for a transit visa at that airport/country.

A single ticket with a change of flight in Toronto for an Indian passport bearer, for example, would operate substantially differently from a single ticket with a change of flight in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

In the first situation, the Indian passport folder will need to travel through immigration, then depart and retrieve bags before rechecking in with the airline for the remainder of the flight, according to the Canadian protocol. As a result, a Canadian visa is required in this scenario. In the second situation, the Indian passport bearer does not need to go through immigration or retrieve their bags in Dubai. As a result, there is no requirement for a visa to transit through Dubai.

This is distinct from purchasing a single ticket from your own country to another nation and then purchasing a separate ticket. These are treated as two distinct tickets. Assume, as in the preceding example, that the Indian passport holder's first flight is from Delhi to Dubai. Following that, if the passenger booked a separate ticket from Dubai to the US, he or she will need to go through immigration, collect, and recheck-in in the baggage. So, in this scenario, a visa is required for an Indian passport bearer to clear the immigration in Dubai.
