CANADIAN ELIGIBILITY AND THE POINTS SYSTEM FOR SELF-EMPLOYED PERSONS

Eligibility and point structure for self-employed individuals

A point system is in place for self-employed people. An qualifying candidate must have a minimum of 35 points based on their education, experience, age, language proficiency, and adaptation to Canada.

You must have a copy of your education certificate (along with English or French translations if applicable) to gain education points.

Self-employed business experience would only be evaluated for points if it happened during the five years before your admission date.

Applicants must provide objective proof of their experiences, such as tax returns, bank accounts, accounting reports, and validation from the accountant's records.

The maximum number of points per age is ten, with a two-point decrease each year following the age range of 21 to 49 years.

Points are given for competence in both English and French, with 16 points given for your first official language and an extra eight points given for your second official language, for a total point score of 24.

You may get six points for adaptation, as indicated below:

Education point system for self-employed individuals

* Education - Doctorate or Master's Degree plus 17 years full-time or full-time equivalent studies
Education - Three-year Trade Certificate, Bachelor of Laws, or Medical Degree +15 years full-time or full-time equivalent status

* Education - Bachelor's Degree or two-year Trade Certificate +14 years of full-time or full-time comparable study.

Education - Bachelor's Degree or one-year Trade Certificate +13 years of full-time or full-time comparable study.

Maximum 15/25 

* Education - One year of postsecondary education plus 12 years of full-time study for full-time equivalent.

* Education - Secondary school education Maximum 12/25

Self-employed folks track their experience using a point system.

* Relevant experience - A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.

Maximum 35/35 * Relevant experience - Four years of relevant experience

* Relevant experience - Three years of relevant experience is required.

Maximum score of 25/35

* Relevant experience - A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required.

Maximum score of 20/35

For self-employed persons, there is a language point system.

* Official language - High competency - First language 16 - Second language 8 

* Official language - Moderate competence - First language 8 - Second language 8 

* Official language - No competency - First language 0 - Second language 0

A self-employed person's adaptability is measured using a safe self-employed person points system.

* Adaptability - education of husband or common-law partner Maximum 3-5/6

* Adaptability - A minimum of one year of full-time approved employment in Canada is required.

* Adaptability - A minimum of two years of full-time post-secondary study in Canada.

Maximum 5/6 

* Adaptability - Canadian family members a maximum of 5/6

Clearly, the most significant issue in the self-employed group is practise. The passing level in this category is 35 points for five years of comparable self-employed working experience.

You and your dependents will have to go through medical examinations, background checks, and security checks, as well as demonstrate that you have the money to maintain yourself in Canada, just like everyone else.
