THE BRITISH CONSTITUTION AND THE MONARCHY

The Declaration of Rights of the British People

Proponents of the British Constitution, which, unlike the US Constitution, is not a single document, believe that its "uncodified" structure allows for more uniformity in law-making.

Various entities are always keeping an eye on one other's capabilities. Many individuals feel that not having a "written in stone" constitution allows the UK to react to change faster, adjusting to situations and public feeling.

The Monarchy of the United Kingdom

The current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, is the Head of State not just of the United Kingdom, but also of the many Commonwealth states that originally formed the British Empire.

The United Kingdom is not the world's only secular dictatorship. The governing king or queen of a constitutional monarchy has the ability to instruct the prime minister of the day and to appoint a properly elected government in his or her name. The sovereign has no control over the territory. All policy choices are made by the prime minister and his or her administration.

After rising to the throne in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953. When she dies, her oldest son, Prince Charles, will ascend to the throne. When he dies, his eldest son, Prince William, will succeed him.

Only Protestant descendants of Princess Sophia, James I's granddaughter, are eligible to succeed to the British throne, according to the Act of Accession. There can be no more Catholics, Catholics who marry Catholics, or Catholics born out of wedlock in the line of succession. Furthermore, the reigning monarch's eldest son is the first to be granted accession (s).

"While Prince Edward, Queen Elizabeth II's third son, is younger than his sister Princess Anne, he is higher in the line of succession."

The Queen has formal responsibilities, such as starting a new session of Parliament and giving the Queen's speech. The administration draughts this message, which covers all of its plans for the next parliamentary session.
