KNOW ABOUT THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS STANDING FOR GOVERNMENT OFFICE IN THE UK
Mathew Collins & Nicky Barclay, in their book, How To Live And Work In The UK, suggests that,
Nationals of the United Kingdom, the Irish Republic, and qualified Commonwealth citizens above the age of 18 may run for office, with a few significant exclusions.
Members of the armed services (Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force), government officials, people convicted of certain criminal offences, and members of the House of Lords are all barred from standing.
Members of the House of Lords are not permitted to hold public office in any other chamber than the House of Commons.
The candidate must have a connection to the area in which he or she desires to serve in the local office. Working in the region, owning land or property, or being on the local electoral roll all entitle the applicant to run.
