Airline tickets: DO NOT PURCHASE YOUR AIR FARE UNTIL YOUR INTERVIEW IS COMPLETED. You are not need to buy a plane ticket in order to apply for a visa in the United States. It will not be able to support much weight. Buying a ticket might be a financial risk since most low-cost flights are non-refundable until purchased. Refundable rates are often double, if not treble, the cost of economy plane tickets. And, as I have said, why purchase an aeroplane ticket in advance if it isn't absolutely necessary?
